Secondary Stage

All pupils have the opportunity to succeed to their fullest potential. In our increasingly competitive and globalized world, given the challenge that is ahead of our pupils, we ensure that resilience, aspiration, leadership and well-being are nurtured in all of our Secondary school students.

English

In the Secondary Stage, the MNS English curriculum is based on Cambridge University Press’s “English in Mind”.

It is a bright, inspirational course, specially designed to motivate teenagers through updated texts and topics that develop an awareness of the value of the English language as an international means of communication.

The Student’s Book combines a rich grammar and vocabulary input with extensive skills work through reading, listening, writing, and speaking tasks. The popular ‘Literature in mind’ feature presents updated extracts from modern and classic fiction and poetry.

Being aware of the importance of studying literature, MNS students study, analyse, and evaluate two masterpieces of literature in grade 10, and two in grade 11.

By reading and studying these great works of art, MNS students develop and enhance their critical thinking skills and are able to acknowledge others’ points of view open-mindedly.

Developing critical thinking skills is the main focus of the English Language curriculum at MNS. Students are regularly required to read between the lines, deduce meaning, and analyse texts.

This is achieved through advanced strategic reading skills such as summarizing, predicting, questioning and visualizing.

Math

The general goals of mathematics education are to develop:

  1. The ability to think critically and creatively, visualize concepts, reason mathematically, and use mathematics to solve daily problems and other disciplines.
  2. Use mathematical language to express their views logically in their communication with others.
  • High school

The core topics in High School include the areas of Algebra, Analytic Geometry in Secondary one, and Algebra, Calculus, Mechanics, and Trigonometry in Secondary two.

  • Teaching strategy

Our method uses a unique combination of mental, verbal, visual, tactile, and written techniques to help students learn math.

  • Mental

Students are taught the timing of using the mental techniques of math. This allows them to use their knowledge and skills to solve the tasks at hand logically and mentally, rather than use the traditional paper and pencil methods.

  • Verbal

Language is an essential part of the program. The meaning of root words in mathematical contexts is taught to the students in addition to enhancing their capability of explaining their thoughts and reasoning verbally.

  • Visual

Meaningful pictures, diagrams, charts, and tables are used to explain ideas and concepts. Many of the problems in the workbooks are image based.

Science

  • Vision

MNS’s vision is to encourage students, not only, to pursue studies in science-related fields but also to emphasize teamwork, problem-solving, and decision-making by developing life skills using hands-on learning activities.

  • Department of facilities and resources

MNS provides 3 highly equipped science labs that supply modern technological aids. Students are engaged in their lessons, which are mostly demonstrated as PowerPoint presentations through smart boards installed in labs.

Our labs are also provided with microscopes, chemistry tools, and illustrative devices for physics experiments.

Second language

At MNS, we are strong advocates for the importance of mastering a second language. Our priority at MNS is the development of all four language skills: Listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

According to the European learning framework, all languages are divided into 6 levels. Starting Kg2, we start offering our students French or German orally first, so they would get familiar with the sounds of the language.

Starting in primary 3, students start getting introduced to the written language, reaching level B1 by the time they graduate.
