1- Community Development
In order to link individuals to the wider community and raise awareness about the needs of the fellow citizens as well as develop the values of belongingness and loyalty to one’s country, all MNS High School students are obligated to participate in the High school Community Development program. Through one lesson on the schedule for Years 9, 10 and the Community Development Club for Years 11,12, one service/ charity of several projects is chosen every year for students to participate in. Participation is obligatory for year 9 students.
2- Global Perspectives:
Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives provides opportunities for enquiry into, and reflection on, key global issues from different perspectives: personal, local/national and global. It encourages awareness of global problems and offers a range of opportunities to explore solutions through cooperation and collaboration. The course is not about getting everybody to think identically; rather it is a matter of opening minds to the complexity of the world and of human thought, and encouraging empathy for the diversity of human experience and feeling.
All Year 9 students are obliged to engage in several projects and research papers to be submitted during the school year. This preparation will enable them to take the subject as an O.L. in Year 10, 11 or 12.
Students may practice working in a magazine through the successful MNS Magazine:“WHY NOT?” through committing themselves to joining the journalism club. Students still enjoy the right to submit articles to be published in the school magazine even if they aren’t members in the journalism club. This will be done at the students’ leisure and convenience through contacting the Magazine Supervisor at an assigned time during break times. Perfect pieces of writing in the English class, also, will be published in the magazine upon the permission of the writer.
4- MUN (Model United Nations) / EBIS- Narmer MUN and International MUN:
MNS students are annually given the chance to participate in JCIMUN (Junior Cairo International MUN) and JCIMAL (Junior Cairo International Model Arab League) organized at AUC. This is besides other similar conferences. Also, MNS students and graduates annually organize an MUN conference with The Egyptian British International School (EBIS) under the supervision of both schools. To encourage participation in such events, the staff slow down the progress of the syllabuses as well as minimize the assignments during such conferences. MNS students also enjoy the privilege of taking part in International MUN conferences in Europe and U.S.A. once a year.
5- Cultural Events:
To integrate cultural events into our educational program, we select a number of students to experience a live concert/show at Cairo Opera House. Since it is not convenient to engage all the students in such events at the same time, a limited number of students will be chosen according to different criteria every month. This may include academic excellence, best behavior, most significant improvement, or any other aspect we believe will enrich the students’ performance and enhance constructive competition.
6- Student Union:
MNS Student Council is headed by a graduating senior student. Comprising more than 24 members representing the Middle School and the High School, the Student Council meets on a regular basis every two weeks. With a well-planned agenda, the Student Council members discuss all issues of general concern among the students, take them to a higher level for negotiations and, in most of the cases, find solutions. Our student union representatives participate in a simulation of a real governing body. The candidates who run for presidency engage in presidential debates and learn crucial leadership values though the activity.
This is another empowering as well as inspiring activity that is fully organized and run by the students to give them the chance to take the lead, listen to, evaluate and analyze important life-changing talks. The Organizer and Co-organizer are usually graduating seniors, who work with a group of interested students in order to implement the activity and hand the legacy to younger students.
8- Fundraising events:
All High School students will take part in a fundraising event at some point in order to enhance their volunteering spirit, expand their act of giving and at the same time help them understand financial basic concepts. Through the assigned committees, students will manage and coordinate the event, calculate the expenses and finally get their ideas implemented through a fully student-run activity.

What is community service/ Development?
Community service is an act done to link individuals to the wider community through services and projects that benefit the society and raise awareness about the needs of the fellow citizens as well as develop the values of belongingness and loyalty to one’s country.
By the end of Year 12, and through completing 50 hours of community service programs set by the school, students will achieve the following objectives:
- Develop their sense of belongingness to their country and awareness of the needs of their fellow citizens
- Build a culture of collaboration to create a healthier environment
- Enhance their volunteering spirit
- Learn new skills and plant the seeds of leadership through managing their projects and time
- Experience personal growth and character development through serving others
- Give back to the community
According to Maadi Narmer School Community Development Program:
- Community service is obligatory for all IGCSE year 9 students and optional for Years 10,11,12.
- Students must complete 15 hours of community service each year starting Year 9, with an expected total of 45 hours by the time they graduate.
- Students must submit evidence of the completion of 50 hours of community service by the end of their 12th year of school. This is to be supervised, documented and stamped by the school.
- Group Work:
- All community service projects must be implemented in the form of group work – individual work isn’t encouraged.
- Each group must have a leader (a student) who will define and ensure that all students are participating
- Each group must have a portfolio to record the whole experience
- Portfolio: The project portfolio must
- Define the exact needs of the facility to be supported
- Have a clear objective as to what is to be done to serve the community
- Explain an action plan of how the service will be conducted
- Display photos/ CDs of students in action showing all the steps taken to implement the plan
- Students must physically participate in the chosen community service project and spend the required hours at work rather than merely donate money.
